MEMORIAL SERVICE IN MEMORY OF ALL ITALIANS WHO LOST THEIR LIVES ON KOS DURING WORLD WAR II
On Sunday, September 7, 2014, at the Catholic Church Agnus Dei (The Lamb of God), following the customary Mass at 11:00 a.m. and Holy Communion, a memorial service was held and a minute of silence was observed in memory of the 103 Italian officers who were executed in the Linopotis area of Kos on October 6, 1943, 71 years earlier by the Germans, as well as in memory of all Italians who lost their lives on Kos during World War II.
The service was held in the presence of, and upon the initiative of, Pietro Giovanni Liuzzi, retired Colonel, president of the Association of Fallen Italians on Kos, and author of the book Kos, una tragedia dimenticata. Along with a large gathering of people, in a solemn and brief ceremony, he paid tribute in front of the monument dedicated to the fallen Italians.
