Columbella rustica
Σίγουρα τα 'χεις δει, τα 'χεις μαζέψει σε κάποια ελληνική παραλία και πιθανά να τα 'χεις κάνει και κολιέ.
Με αφορμή τη σελίδα Κοχύλια των ελληνικών θαλασσών, που μοιράστηκε μαζί μας ο Κώστας Χατζηάμαλλος, σκέφτηκα να ταυτοποιήσω και κάποια από τα κοχύλια που χρόνια τώρα μαζεύω από παραλίες.
Στις παραλίες της Κω υπάρχει μεγάλος αριθμός δειγμάτων Columbella rustica , σε ευρεία ποικιλία σχημάτων, αποχρώσεων και σχεδίων, είδους πολύ κοινού, με χαρακτηριστικό προφίλ, πυκνή & ψιλή οδόντωση στο χείλος και μυτερή κορυφή. Το στοματικό του άνοιγμα λειτουργεί συχνά σαν "παγίδα" μικροσκοπικών κοχυλιών (π.χ. Rissoidae, κλπ.).
Είναι τα πιο συνηθισμένα κοχύλια, εύκολα να εντοπιστούν, αλλά δεν γνωρίζω αν υπάρχει σωστή ονομασία στα ελληνικά. Για κάποιο λόγο, που δεν μπόρεσα να διασταυρώσω, τα γνωρίζω με την ονομασία "καραβολάκια".

Μελέτες έχουν δείξει ότι υπάρχει θεραπευτική αξία στο μάζεμα κοχυλιών καθώς χαλαρώνεις, αναρωτιέσαι αν υπάρχουν, ενθουσιάζεσαι όταν τα βρίσκεις, έρχεσαι σε επαφή με τη φύση κι αν το κάνεις κάθε μέρα με τη σωστή παρέα οι μέρες σου γίνονται πιο χαρούμενες.

Columbella rustica
You have certainly seen them, collected them on a Greek beach, and perhaps even turned them into a necklace.
Inspired by the Facebook page Seashells of the Greek Seas, shared with us by Kostas Chatziamallos, I decided to identify some of the shells that I have been collecting from beaches for years.
Along the beaches of Kos, there is a large number of Columbella rustica specimens, displaying a wide variety of shapes, colors, and patterns. It is a very common species, characterized by its distinctive profile, dense and fine teeth along the lip of the shell, and its pointed apex. Its aperture often acts as a “trap” for tiny shells (such as members of the Rissoidae family and others).
These are among the most common shells and are very easy to find, although I am not aware of a proper Greek common name for them. For some reason, which I have not been able to verify, I have always known them by the name karavolakia (“little snails”).

Among the shells we find, there are always Columbella rustica specimens.
Studies have shown that collecting seashells can have therapeutic benefits. It helps you relax, wonder whether you will find any, feel excited when you do, and connect with nature. And if you do it every day with good company, your days become a little happier.
