Success story: Τον λένε Μάρτιν, μεγάλωσε στην Κω και ίδρυσε & διευθύνει το Φεστιβάλ Κινηματογράφου στην Γλασκώβη (WoFF)-ανάμεσα σε άλλα σπουδαία

Αυτή η ιστορία επιτυχίας ξεκινάει με ένα παιδί που μετακόμισε στην Κω με την οικογένειά του το 2002, από τη Σόφια της Βουλγαρίας, χωρίς να μιλάει ούτε μία λέξη ελληνικά.

Αδύνατον να σκεφτεί κανείς τις δυσκολίες που μπορεί να είχε ένα παιδί, άγνωστο μεταξύ αγνώστων, όταν ξαφνικά εντάσσεται λόγω ηλικίας στην ΣΤ’ δημοτικού, χωρίς καν να έχει κάνει την Ε’ δημοτικού στη χώρα του, και χωρίς να μιλάει ούτε μία λέξη ελληνικά.

Ο Martin Petrov, όμως, με πολύ πείσμα κι επιμονή, κι όπως αναφέρει με την στήριξη του τότε δασκάλου του, Δημήτρη Έψιμου, και άλλων δασκάλων στο τμήμα ένταξης, άρχισε να μιλάει και να γράφει ελληνικά μετά το πρώτο τρίμηνο και τελειώνοντας το 1ο Γενικό Λύκειο Κω «Ιπποκράτειο» κατάφερε το ακατόρθωτο: Να περάσει με Πανελλήνιες εξετάσεις στην υψηλόβαθμη σχολή Μ.Μ.Ε στο Αριστοτέλειο Πανεπιστήμιο Θεσσαλονίκης. Εκεί βρέθηκε σχεδόν τυχαία, καθώς οι πρώτες του επιλογές περιελάμβαναν σχολές όπως Φιλολογία, Αγγλική Φιλολογία ή Νομική.

Από το 2009 ως το 2013, ως φοιτητής, ταυτόχρονα με την σχολή, κάνει αρχικά την πρακτική του και καταλήγει να δουλεύει για 3 χρόνια στο Φεστιβάλ Κινηματογράφου και Ντοκιμαντέρ Θεσσαλονίκης στο Γραφείο Τύπου και Δημοσίων Σχέσεων.

Αυτή η εμπειρία, ουσιαστικά του «γέννησε» την αγάπη, που εξελίχθηκε σε πάθος, για το σινεμά αλλά και τη διοργάνωση κινηματογραφικών events, μιας και το επικοινωνιακό κομμάτι πάντα του άρεσε. Σ’ αυτό το σημείο αρχίζει να διαγράφεται η πορεία του και αποφασίζει τι θέλει να κάνει.

Το 2013 κάνει το μεταπτυχιακό του στην «Κινηματογραφική Δημοσιογραφία» (Film Journalism) στο Πανεπιστήμιο της Γλασκώβης στην Σκωτία (School of Film & TV studies of Glasgow University in Scotland). Εκεί πήγε για έναν μόνο χρόνο, για το μεταπτυχιακό του, και δέκα χρόνια μετά ζει μόνιμα εκεί. Στο Πανεπιστήμιο στην Γλασκώβη, ένας καθηγητής του έχει τη χρηματοδότηση αλλά δεν βρίσκει κανέναν να διοργανώσει ένα φεστιβάλ ταινιών. Αναλαμβάνει ο Martin με μια συμφοιτήτρια, κ μ’ αυτόν τον τρόπο «γεννιέται» για πρώτη φορά, ένα κινηματογραφικό φεστιβάλ, το οποίο από την επόμενη χρονιά αποφασίζει να το κάνει πιο επαγγελματικά και μόνος. Κι έτσι ιδρύει το WoFF: World of Film International Festival In Glasgow, UK, που μεγαλουργεί στη Γλασκώβη για 13η χρονιά φέτος, με ρεκόρ συμμετοχών. 500 ανεξάρτητες παραγωγές από όλον τον κόσμο έχουν ήδη δηλώσει συμμετοχή στο φεστιβάλ του Νοεμβρίου, και αν κάποιος ενδιαφέρεται είναι ανοικτές ακόμη οι υποβολές.

Το WoFF (World of Film International Festival In Glasgow), το οποίο χρηματοδοτείται από δύο οργανισμούς, το BFI (British Film Institute) και το Screen Scotland, επικεντρώνεται σε τρεις τομείς: α) σε πρώτες ταινίες σκηνοθετών, β) στη γυναικεία οπτική (ταινίες που σκηνοθετούνται από γυναίκες ή έχουν θέμα τη γυναίκα) και γ) στον Βαλκανικό Κινηματογράφο.

Ο Martin, δεν σταματάει εδώ. Εκτός από ιδρυτής και διευθυντής του WoFF, είναι και συμπαραγωγός εδώ και 9 χρόνια στο Animaze - Montreal International Animation Film Festival και επίσης είναι διευθυντής στο Animation Day σε ένα από τα πιο σημαντικά Κινηματογραφικά Φεστιβάλ του Κόσμου, στο Φεστιβάλ των Καννών (Cannes Film Festival). Το Animation Day εντάσσεται και στο WoFF της Γλασκώβης με διαφορετικές ταινίες από το Φεστιβάλ των Καννών.

Είναι δύσκολο να παρακολουθήσει κάποιος την ασύλληπτα πλούσια δράση του Martin, ο οποίος μάλλον βρίσκεται σε όποια «κινηματογραφική πέτρα» κι αν σηκώσεις. Μιλάει με πάθος για όλα τα Φεστιβάλ που διοργανώνει. Ο Martin επίσης ίδρυσε, πριν από 9 χρόνια, ένα ακόμη πολύ εντυπωσιακό Φεστιβάλ, μια πολύ έξυπνη ιδέα, το «περιοδεύον» φεστιβάλ “ EuropeNow ”, το οποίο σε συνεργασία με το CES (Council for European Studies) του Πανεπιστημίου Κολούμπια στη Νέα Υόρκη (Columbia University), ακολουθεί το ετήσιο Συμπόσιο σε διαφορετικές πόλεις του κόσμου, όπως Μαδρίτη και Λισσαβόνα και για το 2023 το 29ο International Conference of Europeanists (Europe’s Past Present and Future: Utopias and Dystopias) έλαβε χώρα στο Reykjavik της Ισλανδίας και το 2024 στην Σκωτία.

Το σίγουρο είναι ότι η επαγγελματική δράση του δεν μπορεί να χωρέσει σε λίγες παραγράφους, καθώς παράλληλα με τα φεστιβάλ εκπροσωπεί και κάνει δημόσιες σχέσεις για πολλούς ανεξάρτητους δημιουργούς ταινιών, «προμοτάρει» τις ταινίες τους στα φεστιβάλ, και μερικές φορές εμπλέκεται και στη συμπαραγωγή. Επιπλέον, έκανε δημόσιες σχέσεις και marketing για το TED στην Γλασκώβη.

Εδώ και 12 χρόνια συμμετέχει στα πιο δημοφιλή Φεστιβάλ Κινηματογράφου του κόσμου, στο Βερολίνο, στις Κάννες και τη Βενετία, διοργανώνοντας events, όπως προβολές ταινιών (σκηνοθέτες προβάλλουν τις ταινίες τους στο πλαίσιο της Biennale), ετήσια πάρτι (όπως π.χ. cocktail party για μια Τεξανή σκηνοθέτη), market screenings, networking events κ.ά.

• Ζει μεταξύ Γλασκώβης και Λονδίνου
• Έχει περπατήσει το κόκκινο χαλί των μεγαλύτερων κινηματογραφικών διοργανώσεων του κόσμου-Φεστιβάλ Καννών,Φεστιβάλ Βερολίνου, Φεστιβάλ Βενετίας, Bafta Awards κ.ά
• Έχει γνωρίσει πάρα πολλούς διάσημους και έχει ξεχωρίσει τη Lady Gaga και την Jane Fonda.
• Του λείπει η Ελλάδα, κυρίως ο ήλιος και το φαγητό.
• Έρχεται στην Κω μια φορά τον χρόνο, κάθε καλοκαίρι.
• Οι γονείς του ζουν στην Κω και έχουν ένα τουριστικό κατάστημα στην οδό Κανάρη.
• Είναι πλέον παντρεμένος κι ερωτευμένος.
• Στο σχολείο δέχτηκε bullying, κυρίως λόγω του σεξουαλικού προσανατολισμού του. Εύχεται το εκπαιδευτικό προσωπικό να αντιμετώπιζε λίγο πιο αποτελεσματικά τέτοιες συμπεριφορές κι όχι απλά να τις προσπερνούσε.
• Θα ήθελε να κάνει ένα Φεστιβάλ Κινηματογράφου στην Κω, είτε ως συνέχεια του Φεστιβάλ Υγείας της Λουκίας Ρικάκη, είτε κάτι εντελώς καινούριο. Μιας και το όνειρό του είναι να κάνει ένα Κινηματογραφικό Φεστιβάλ στην παραλία, γιατί όχι στην Κω? Θεωρεί τον καλοκαιρινό Ορφέα, ιδανικό τόπο για τη διεξαγωγή τέτοιων φεστιβάλ μιας και στην Αγγλία και την Σκωτία δεν υπάρχουν θερινοί κινηματογράφοι.
• Του αρέσει να ακούει ιστορίες που εμπνέουν, όμως δεν ξέρει πόσο μας εμπνέει η δική του ιστορία!

Success Story: His name is Martin. He grew up on Kos and went on to found and direct the World of Film Festival in Glasgow (WoFF)—among many other remarkable achievements.

This success story begins with a young boy who moved to Kos with his family in 2002 from Sofia, Bulgaria, without speaking a single word of Greek.

It is hard to imagine the challenges a child must have faced when, suddenly surrounded by strangers, he was placed directly into the sixth grade of primary school—without even having completed the fifth grade in his home country and without speaking any Greek.

Martin Petrov, however, through determination and perseverance, and with the support of his primary school teacher, Dimitris Epsimos, as well as other teachers in the integration class, as he recalls, began speaking and writing Greek within the first three months. By the time he graduated from the 1st General High School of Kos "Hippocrateio," he had accomplished what seemed almost impossible: he passed the highly competitive Greek national university entrance examinations and was admitted to the Department of Journalism and Mass Media at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Ironically, this was not even among his first choices, which had included Greek Philology, English Language and Literature, and Law.

From 2009 to 2013, while studying at university, he first completed an internship and then spent three years working in the Press and Public Relations Office of the Thessaloniki International Film Festival and the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival.

That experience sparked what soon became a lifelong passion—not only for cinema itself but also for organizing film festivals and events, as communications had always been one of his greatest interests. It was at that point that his professional path began to take shape, and he realized exactly what he wanted to do.

In 2013, he moved to Scotland to pursue a Master's degree in Film Journalism at the School of Film & TV Studies, University of Glasgow. He originally intended to stay for just one year to complete his postgraduate studies. More than ten years later, Scotland is still his home.

During his time at the University of Glasgow, one of his professors had secured funding for a film festival but could not find anyone willing to organize it. Martin volunteered, together with one of his fellow students, and that was how a film festival was born for the very first time. The following year, he decided to take the project a step further and organize it professionally on his own.

That decision led to the creation of the WoFF – World of Film International Festival Glasgow, which this year celebrates its 13th edition, attracting a record number of submissions. More than 500 independent productions from around the world have already entered this November's festival, while submissions are still open for filmmakers wishing to participate.

The World of Film International Festival Glasgow, funded by the British Film Institute (BFI) and Screen Scotland, focuses on three main pillars:

• debut feature films by emerging directors,
• films that highlight women's perspectives, either through female directors or stories centered on women,
• and Balkan cinema.

Martin's work, however, extends far beyond WoFF.

In addition to being the founder and festival director of the World of Film International Festival Glasgow, he has been serving for the past nine years as Co-Producer of the Animaze – Montreal International Animation Film Festival. He is also the Director of Animation Day at one of the world's most prestigious film events, the Cannes Film Festival. The Animation Day programme is also incorporated into WoFF in Glasgow, featuring a different selection of films from those presented at Cannes.

It is almost impossible to keep track of Martin's remarkably extensive professional activity. He speaks passionately about every festival he organizes.

Nine years ago, he also founded another highly innovative festival, EuropeNow, a travelling film festival that follows the annual conference of the Council for European Studies (CES) at Columbia University in New York. The festival moves to a different city each year alongside the conference, having taken place in cities such as Madrid and Lisbon. In 2023, it accompanied the 29th International Conference of Europeanists, titled Europe's Past, Present and Future: Utopias and Dystopias, in Reykjavik, Iceland, while in 2024 it was held in Scotland.

His professional achievements simply cannot be summarised in just a few paragraphs.

Alongside the festivals, Martin also represents independent filmmakers and manages their public relations, promoting their films at international festivals and, in some cases, becoming involved as a co-producer. In addition, he has worked in public relations and marketing for TEDxGlasgow.

For the past twelve years, he has been actively involved in some of the world's most renowned film festivals, including Berlin, Cannes, and Venice, organizing a wide range of events such as film screenings, market screenings, networking events, and annual receptions, including cocktail parties for filmmakers participating in the festivals.

• Today, he divides his time between Glasgow and London.
• He has walked the red carpets of some of the world's biggest film events, including the Cannes Film Festival, the Berlin International Film Festival, the Venice Film Festival, and the BAFTA Awards.
• Over the years, he has met countless internationally renowned personalities, but among those who impressed him the most are Lady Gaga and Jane Fonda.
• Despite his international career, he admits that he misses Greece—especially the sunshine and the food.
• Every summer, he returns to Kos, where his parents still live and run a tourist shop on Kanari Street.
• He is now happily married and deeply in love.
• Martin also speaks openly about one of the most difficult chapters of his school years. He experienced bullying throughout his time at school, mainly because of his sexual orientation. Looking back, he wishes that teachers and school staff had addressed such behaviour more effectively instead of simply overlooking it.
• One of his greatest dreams is to establish a film festival on the island of Kos. Whether as a continuation of the Lucia Rikaki Health Film Festival or as an entirely new initiative, he believes the island has enormous potential. He considers the Orfeas Open-Air Cinema the perfect venue for such an event, pointing out that open-air cinemas like those found in Greece simply do not exist in England or Scotland.
• He enjoys listening to stories that inspire people, although he is not sure whether his own story is inspiring enough. Yet his journey says otherwise.

From a young boy who arrived on Kos unable to speak a single word of Greek, he has become one of the driving forces behind international film festivals, working alongside filmmakers from all over the world and helping independent cinema reach global audiences.

Perhaps one day, one of his greatest dreams will come true—bringing an international film festival to the island where his own journey truly began.

Ο Πάνος Βλάχος στην Κω

Μετά το Tsoula Festival στην Αστυπάλαια, και συνεχίζοντας την περιοδεία του σε όλη την Ελλάδα, ο Πάνος Βλάχος έκανε στάση και στην Κω στις 9/7/26, για μια ξεχωριστή εμφάνιση στον Θερινό Κινηματογράφο «Ορφέας», μια συνδιοργάνωση του κινηματογράφου Ορφέα και του εστιατορίου Broadway.

Έτοιμος να μετατρέψει κάθε συναυλία σε μια εκρηκτική εμπειρία γεμάτη μουσική, συναίσθημα, χιούμορ και αυτοσαρκασμό, ο Πάνος Βλάχος μας παρουσίασε ένα πρόγραμμα γεμάτο αγαπημένα τραγούδια, δικά του και άλλων, αλλά και τον τελευταίο του δίσκο «Άλμπουμ φωτογραφικά», με το πολύ όμορφο τραγούδι «Μπαμπάδες», καταφέρνοντας να κερδίσει το κοινό της Κω με τον ιδιαίτερο τρόπο του που συνδυάζει τραγούδι, αφήγηση και θεατρικότητα, ανατρεπτικές στιγμές και τη χαρακτηριστική σκηνική του ενέργεια.

Η βραδιά είχε ένταση, γέλιο, συγκίνηση και δυνατή επικοινωνία με το κοινό.

Tη βραδιά άνοιξε «ο δικός μας» Βασίλης Κεφαλιανός, ο οποίος συνεργάστηκε και με τον Πάνο Βλάχο στο ντεμπούτο single του, με τίτλο «Ʃτην Αθήνα».

*Ο Πάνος Βλάχος γεννήθηκε στις 10 Μαρτίου 1985 στη Βούλα Αττικής, ενώ η καταγωγή του είναι από την Καλοσκοπή Φωκίδας.

Σπούδασε στο Τμήμα Ναυτιλιακών Σπουδών του Πανεπιστήμιο Πειραιώς. Εργάστηκε για μικρό χρονικό διάστημα σε μία ναυτιλιακή εταιρία στη Βούλα Αττικής ενώ παράλληλα ασχολήθηκε ερασιτεχνικά με το ποδόσφαιρο και το θέατρο. Αργότερα σπούδασε στο «Νέο ελληνικό θέατρο» του Γιώργου Αρμένη και ξεκίνησε να εργάζεται επαγγελματικά ως ηθοποιός.

Παίζει κιθάρα, μπουζούκι, μπαγλαμά, ακορντεόν, κοντραμπάσο και παραδοσιακά κρουστά.

Στο θέατρο έχει συνεργαστεί με τους Δημήτρη Μαυρίκιο, Νίκο Καραθάνο, Λάκη Λαζόπουλο, Πέτρο Φιλιππίδη, Κώστα Γάκη, Γιάννη Κακλέα και τον Νίκο Καλογερόπουλο με τον οποίον ξεκίνησε την καριέρα του. Το καλοκαίρι του 2014 έπαιξε στην Επίδαυρο τον ρόλο του Ξανθία, στους Βατράχους του Αριστοφάνη.

Την άνοιξη του 2016, ξεκίνησε να δουλεύει ως ηθοποιός στην πρώτη του παράσταση στην Αμερική, το "Mistero Buffo" του Dario Fo. Αρχικά, παίχτηκε στο θέατρο "Balcony" της Νέας Υόρκης και από τα μέσα του 2017, συνεχίζει να παίζεται στο fringe festival του Χόλυγουντ. Επίσης, έδωσε και την πρώτη του συναυλία στην Νέα Υόρκη, μαζί με τους Lauren Wright και Peyton Tucker που έχουν κάνει μαζί ένα σχήμα, στον μουσικό χώρο Silvana Harlem. Ο Πάνος Βλάχος είναι ένας από τους πιο επιτυχημένους καλλιτέχνες της γενιάς του. Πρωταγωνιστής της επιτυχημένης σειράς 17 κλωστές με μια εξαιρετική ερμηνεία.

Panos Vlachos Performs in Kos

Following his appearance at the Tsoula Festival on Astypalaia and continuing his summer tour across Greece, Panos Vlachos stopped in Kos on 9 July 2026 for a memorable live performance at the Orfeas Open-Air Cinema. The event was co-organized by Orfeas Cinema and Broadway Restaurant.

Known for turning every concert into an energetic blend of music, emotion, humor, and self-irony, Panos Vlachos presented a program featuring both his own songs and well-loved favorites by other artists. He also performed selections from his latest album, Album Fotografika, including the touching song "Babades" ("Fathers"). Combining music, storytelling, theatrical performance, unexpected moments, and his unmistakable stage presence, he quickly won over the audience in Kos.

The evening was filled with energy, laughter, emotion, and a genuine connection between the artist and the audience.

Opening the concert was our own Vasilis Kefalianos, who also collaborated with Panos Vlachos on his debut single, "Stin Athina" ("In Athens").

*About Panos Vlachos

Panos Vlachos was born on 10 March 1985 in Voula, Attica, and traces his family roots to Kaloskopi, Phocis.

He studied at the Department of Maritime Studies at the University of Piraeus. After working briefly for a shipping company in Voula, he pursued his interests in amateur football and theatre before studying acting at Giorgos Armenis' New Greek Theatre, where he began his professional acting career.

A talented multi-instrumentalist, he plays the guitar, bouzouki, baglamas, accordion, double bass, and traditional percussion instruments.

Throughout his theatrical career, he has collaborated with renowned directors including Dimitris Mavrikios, Nikos Karathanos, Lakis Lazopoulos, Petros Filippidis, Kostas Gakis, Giannis Kakleas, and Nikos Kalogeropoulos, with whom he began his career. In the summer of 2014, he performed the role of Xanthias in Aristophanes' The Frogs at the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus.

In the spring of 2016, he made his American stage debut in Dario Fo's Mistero Buffo at the Balcony Theatre in New York. From mid-2017, the production continued as part of the Hollywood Fringe Festival. During his time in New York, he also gave his first concert there alongside Lauren Wright and Peyton Tucker at Silvana Harlem.

Today, Panos Vlachos is regarded as one of the most successful Greek artists of his generation. He also received widespread acclaim for his outstanding leading performance in the hit television series 17 Threads (17 Klostes).

Στο νορβηγικό περιοδικό Norsk Ukeblad (το 2ο σε κυκλοφορία γυναικείο περιοδικό στη Νορβηγία) αφιέρωσε εξασέλιδο αφιέρωμα στο νησί μας με στόχο να ανατρέψουμε τη μέση σκανδιναβική αντίληψη ότι η Κως είναι κατάλληλη για νεαρούς τουρίστες μόνο. Γύρισε όλο το νησί καταγράφοντας την άποψη γυναικών άνω των 40 για τους λόγους που θα πρότειναν την Κω σαν τουριστικό προορισμό.

Η διεθνούς φήμης φωτογράφος Marianne Wie έκανε έκθεση με φωτογραφίες της από τη Νίσυρο στο Αρχαιολογικό Μουσείο της Νισύρου υπό την αιγίδα της Νορβηγικής Πρεσβείας από την 1η ως τις 19 Αυγούστου του 2022, με την άδεια της Εφορείας Αρχαιοτήτων Δωδεκανήσου.

«Το Ποτάμι του Χρόνου» ήταν μία σειρά φωτογραφικών εικόνων που τραβήχτηκαν στο νησί της Νισύρου τέλη χειμώνα-αρχές άνοιξης το 2018. Τραβήχτηκαν με κάμερα medium format και χρήση ληγμένου φιλμ.

Οι περισσότερες από αυτές τις εικόνες περιλαμβάνουν τοπία που φέρουν ανθρώπινη ζωή ή κτίρια και το εσωτερικό τους που σταδιακά τα διεκδικεί πίσω η φύση.

"Για μένα, αυτές οι φωτογραφίες έχουν μία στοιχειωμένη μελαγχολική αίσθηση, η οποία -θέλω να πιστεύω ότι-δημιουργείται από έναν συνδυασμό από φυσικά υλικά και ίχνη που αφήνονται πίσω από ανθρώπους που έζησαν και πέρασαν από αυτά τα μέρη. Ποιες ήταν οι ζωές τους και τα όνειρά τους; Πού πάνε οι αναμνήσεις τους και η ιστορία τους όταν φεύγουν ή όταν πεθαίνουν; Αποθηκεύονται κάπου; Είναι πιθανό να δανείζονται μνήμες από τοπία, μέρη και άλλων ανθρώπων ζωές; Ίσως να μην υπάρχει απολύτως καμιά αλήθεια σ’ αυτό, ίσως εγώ απλά υπερ-αναλύω τα πάντα κι ίσως οι εικόνες είναι μελαγχολικές και καταθλιπτικές επειδή μου έλειπε το σπίτι μου όταν τις τράβηξα. Η ιστορία είναι ένας δρόμος αποκλίνων και υποκειμενικός και οι μνήμες και οι τοποθεσίες αλλάζουν με τον χρόνο. Ο τίτλος προέρχεται από ένα από τα αγαπημένα μου βιβλία «Καταριέμαι Το Ποτάμι του Χρόνου» ( "I Curse The River of Time") του Νορβηγού συγγραφέα Per Petterson, μία θλιβερή αλλά όμορφη ιστορία για την περίπλοκη και συνηθισμένη ζωή μιας σκοτεινής σκανδιναβικής καρδιάς."

H Marianne Wie μαζί με τη φίλη της Zoë Burt, καταξιωμένες καλλιτέχνιδες αμφότερες, διοργανώνουν ένα ετήσιο, πενθήμερο εργαστήριο τέχνης (art workshop) στη Νίσυρο, κάθε φθινόπωρο, το Nature Journal.

Το εργαστήριο, που συνήθως συνδυάζεται με την φθινοπωρινή απόδραση στη Νίσυρο περιλαμβάνει:

• Δημιουργία κυανοτυπιών (cyanotypes) σε χαρτί και ύφασμα
• Πειραματισμό με χρώματα από φυσικές βαφές και μελάνια με τοπικά βότανα
• Αποτύπωση φυτών (eco-printing και hapazome)
• Ζωγραφική, γλυπτική, σκίτσο, κέντημα και δημιουργία του δικού σας μοναδικού Nature Journal.

Τα εργαστήρια απευθύνονται σε όλους, από αρχάριους έως έμπειρους καλλιτέχνες, ενώ στις μέρες του προγράμματος περιλαμβάνονται επίσης χρόνος για εξερεύνηση του ηφαιστείου της Νισύρου, μπάνιο, περίπατοι στα ορεινά χωριά, φαγητό σε τοπικές ταβέρνες κι αν είστε τυχεροί βόλτα στο υπέροχο Γυαλί.

Το επόμενο προγραμματισμένο εργαστήριο είναι από τις 28 Σεπτεμβρίου ως τις 2 Οκτωβρίου 2026.

Όσο για μας... Γνωριστήκαμε τον Απρίλιο του 2018 σε μια δύσκολη πεζοπορία του Χάρη Διακομιχάλη στην Αγία Ειρήνη στη Νίσυρο, κι έκτοτε "δέσαμε". Έχουμε ταξιδέψει πολύ, στην Ελλάδα και στο εξωτερικό κι έχουμε βιώσει απίστευτες εμπειρίες, καθώς δεν υπάρχει καταλληλότερο άτομο από τη Marianne για να ξυπνήσει τον περιπετειώδη σου εαυτό και να σου φτιάχνει το κέφι όταν είσαι λυπημένος ή πιεσμένος. Της χρωστάω μερικές από τις ωραιότερες στιγμές της ζωής μου!

A Tribute to Marianne Wie: Internationally Acclaimed Photographer and Friend of Kos, Nisyros, and Me.

Marianne Wie (born 1972, Bergen, Norway) works as a freelance photographer and writer for Norwegian and English media. She has a Master in photography from Bergen Academy of Arts and Design and BA (HONS) in Sculpture from Chelsea College of Art and Design in London.

Her art work mostly consists of photography and sculpture. Identity, memories, shame, time and nature are reoccurring themes in her work.

The internationally acclaimed photographer Marianne Wie held an exhibition of her photographs of Nisyros at the Archaeological Museum of Nisyros from 1 to 19 August 2022, under the auspices of the Royal Norwegian Embassy and with the permission of the Ephorate of Antiquities of the Dodecanese.

"River of Time" was a series of photographic images taken on the island of Nisyros during late winter and early spring 2018. They were shot on a medium format camera using out of date film.

Most of these images consist of landscapes carrying traces of human life, or of buildings and interiors which are slowly being claimed back by nature.

"For me these photographs have a haunted melancholic feeling that I like to think is created by a combination of natural materials and traces left behind by the people who have passed through and lived in these places. What were their lives and dreams like? Where do their memories and history go to when they leave or die? Are they being stored somewhere? Is it possible to borrow memories from landscapes, places and other people’s lives? Maybe there is not any truth in this at all, it is just me who over-analyses everything and maybe the images are melancholic and depressing because I was hopelessly homesick when I took them.

History is a twisted and subjective road and memories and places change with time. The title is taken from one of my favourite books called "I Curse The River of Time" by the Norwegian author Per Petterson. A sad but beautiful story about the complicated and ordinary life of a dark Scandinavian heart."

Marianne Wie, together with her friend Zoë Burt—both accomplished artists—organises an annual five-day Nature Journal Art Workshop on the island of Nisyros every autumn.

The workshop, often combined with an autumn getaway to Nisyros, includes:

Creating cyanotypes on paper and fabric

Experimenting with natural dyes and botanical inks made from local herbs

Botanical printing techniques, including eco-printing and Hapa Zome

Painting, sculpture, sketching, embroidery, and creating your own unique Nature Journal

The workshops are open to everyone, from complete beginners to experienced artists.

In addition to the creative sessions, participants have plenty of time to explore the volcanic landscape of Nisyros, swim in the crystal-clear waters, walk through the island's mountain villages, enjoy meals at traditional local tavernas, and—if they're lucky—take an excursion to the beautiful islet of Gyali.The next scheduled workshop will take place from 28 September to 2 October 2026.

As for us...

We first met in April 2018 during one of Haris Diakomichalis' challenging hikes to Agia Irini on Nisyros, and we've been close ever since.

Since then, we've travelled extensively together, both in Greece and abroad, sharing unforgettable experiences along the way. There is no one better than Marianne at bringing out your adventurous spirit or lifting your mood when you're feeling down or overwhelmed.

I owe her some of the most wonderful moments of my life.

Είναι κάτι νύχτες στην Κρίκελο με φεγγάρι...

Με 74 συμμετέχοντες πραγματοποιήθηκε στις 29 Ιουνίου η καλοκαιρινή μας εκδρομή, που διοργάνωσε η Δωδεκανησιακή Μέλισσα σε συνεργασία με την οικογένεια Μαστόρου και το Kamari Boats.

Ξεκινήσαμε από το Καμάρι της Κεφάλου, πλεύσαμε μέχρι το νοτιότερο άκρο της χερσονήσου, στο ακρωτήριο Κρίκελος, περάσαμε από τη σκάλα φόρτωσης–εκφόρτωσης στο Ρούθιανο και είχαμε την τύχη να απολαύσουμε ένα σπάνιο θέαμα: το ηλιοβασίλεμα να χάνεται στο Αιγαίο, την ίδια στιγμή που το φεγγάρι της φράουλας, το πρώτο φεγγάρι του καλοκαιριού, ανέτειλε εντυπωσιακά πίσω από τη Νίσυρο.

Επόμενος σταθμός η παραλία Σαρακηνός. Όσοι το θέλησαν, κολύμπησαν κάτω από το φως του φεγγαριού, ενώ ακολούθησε ένα πλούσιο μπάρμπεκιου με εκλεκτά εδέσματα, παιχνίδια για τα παιδιά και μια όμορφη παρέα που γέμισε τη βραδιά με χαμόγελα και κουβέντες.

Ιδιαίτερη στιγμή της εκδρομής ήταν η σύντομη ομιλία της Λίνας Καστανού-Χαραλαμποπούλου, της μακροβιότερης προέδρου της Δωδεκανησιακής Μέλισσας, η οποία μοιράστηκε σκέψεις και αναμνήσεις με όλους μας για την Ιστορία και τη σημασία της Δωδεκανησιακής Μέλισσας.

Θερμές ευχαριστίες αξίζουν στην οικογένεια Μαστόρου για την άψογη φιλοξενία και τη χορηγία τους και ιδιαίτερα στην Αντιγόνη, τον Θεοδόση και τον καπετάνιο μας, τον Στάθη, για τη φροντίδα τους σε όλη τη διάρκεια της εκδρομής, και που συνέβαλαν ώστε όλα να κυλήσουν με ασφάλεια, οργάνωση και καλή διάθεση.

Το μεγαλύτερο κέρδος της βραδιάς, όμως, ήταν τα χαμόγελα των ανθρώπων. Η συμμετοχή, η θετική ενέργεια και τα όμορφα σχόλια που ακούσαμε επιβεβαίωσαν ότι τέτοιες δράσεις δεν είναι απλώς μια βόλτα στη θάλασσα. Είναι στιγμές που φέρνουν τους ανθρώπους πιο κοντά και δημιουργούν αναμνήσεις που μένουν.

There Are Nights at Krikelos That Stay with You...

On 29 June, our summer excursion brought together 74 participants in an event organized by the Dodecanesian Melissa Association, in collaboration with the Mastorou family and Kamari Boats.

We set sail from Kamari, in Kefalos, and cruised to the southernmost tip of the peninsula, Cape Krikelos, passing by the old loading and unloading pier at Routhiano. There, we were fortunate enough to witness a truly remarkable spectacle: the sun setting over the Aegean Sea while, at the very same moment, the Strawberry Moon—the first full moon of summer—rose majestically behind the island of Nisyros.

Our next stop was Sarakinos Beach. Those who wished enjoyed a moonlit swim, while the rest relaxed before gathering for a generous barbecue featuring a variety of delicious dishes. The evening continued with games for the children and warm conversations among friends, creating an atmosphere filled with laughter and good company.

A particularly memorable moment was the short address by Lina Kastanou-Haralambopoulou, the longest-serving President of the Dodecanesian Melissa Association, who shared with us her thoughts and memories about the history and enduring importance of the Association.

Our heartfelt thanks go to the Mastorou family for their outstanding hospitality and generous sponsorship, and especially to Antigoni, Theodosis, and our captain, Stathis, whose care and dedication throughout the excursion ensured that everything unfolded safely, smoothly, and in the best of spirits.

The greatest reward of the evening, however, was the smiles on everyone's faces. The enthusiastic participation, the positive energy, and the wonderful comments we received confirmed that outings like this are far more than simply a boat trip. They are opportunities to bring people together, strengthen friendships, and create memories that last a lifetime.
