ΤΟ ΑΓΑΛΜΑ ΤΟΥ ΚΟΛΟΚΟΤΡΩΝΗ, ΚΩΣ

ΤΟ ΑΓΑΛΜΑ ΤΟΥ ΚΟΛΟΚΟΤΡΩΝΗ, ΚΩΣ 

Στο μικρό τριγωνικό κόμβο της Γρηγορίου Ε', στη συμβολή των οδών Κοραή και Ιερομάρτυρα Πατριάρχου Γρηγορίου του 5ου, μεταφέρθηκε το 2014 το άγαλμα του Γέρου του Μωριά, του Θεόδωρου Κολοκοτρώνη, Αρχιστράτηγου της Ελληνικής Επανάστασης του 1821.

Το επιβλητικό άγαλμα του Κολοκοτρώνη, με τον ίδιο αγέρωχο, καβάλα στ' άλογό του να δείχνει προς ανατολάς, βρισκόταν για πολλά χρόνια στη μικρή πλατεία της 25ης Μαρτίου, στην είσοδο του ξενοδοχείου Αλεξάνδρα.

Ο Κολοκοτρώνης ευθυτενής ιππεύει αρσενικό άλογο, κρατά με το αριστερό χέρι τα χαλινάρια και με το δεξί τεντωμένο δείχνει μπροστά. Όλη η ένταση της σύνθεσης συγκεντρώνεται στο δείκτη του δεξιού χεριού, που είναι τεντωμένος ίσια μπροστά. Όλη η στάση του εκφράζει δύναμη, ορμή και αποφασιστικότητα.

Αργότερα προστέθηκε διπλή πινακίδα, στα ελληνικά και στα αγγλικά, με προηγμένο τεχνολογικά κώδικα QR ( Quick Response barcode), μέσα στον οποίο έχει αποθηκευτεί σύνδεσμος προς την ιστοσελίδα wikipedia, με πληροφορίες για τον Θεόδωρο Κολοκοτρώνη.

Το άγαλμα αυτό κατασκευάστηκε με χρήματα του Κωακού Λαού με πρωτοβουλία και ενέργειες του «Συλλόγου Εν Κω Πελοποννησίων» (επί Προεδρίας Μανώλη Βαγγέλη).

THE STATUE OF KOLOKOTRONIS, KOS

At the small triangular junction on Grigoriou V Street, at the intersection with Korai Street and Ieromartyra Patriarchou Grigoriou V Street, the statue of the “Old Man of the Morea,” Theodoros Kolokotronis, Commander-in-Chief of the Greek War of Independence, was relocated in 2014.

The imposing statue of Kolokotronis—depicted upright, mounted on his horse and pointing eastward—had stood for many years in the small 25th of March Square, at the entrance of the Alexandra Hotel.

Kolokotronis is shown riding a stallion, holding the reins with his left hand, while his right arm is extended forward, pointing ahead. The entire tension of the composition is concentrated in the index finger of his outstretched right hand. His posture conveys strength, momentum, and determination.

A double sign has recently been added, in Greek and English, featuring an advanced QR (Quick Response) code that links to a Wikipedia page with information about Theodoros Kolokotronis.

The statue was created with funds contributed by the people of Kos, following the initiative and efforts of the “Peloponnesians of Kos Association” (during the presidency of Manolis Vangelis).
