Η ΑΓΙΑ ΚΛΑΥΔΙΑ ΣΤΟ ΠΥΛΙ

ΥΠΟΧΩΣΤΟΝ ΝΑΪΔΡΙΟΝ ΑΓΙΑΣ ΚΛΑΥΔΙΑΣ ΠΥΛΙΟΥ

Το ναΐδριο της Αγίας Κλαυδίας βρίσκεται στο Πυλί, στην περιοχή Αμούτσα (Αγιάκλαφτη).

Την 24η Μαρτίου 1959, ημέρα Τρίτη, υπό την επιστασίαν των Εφημερίων Αγίου Νικολάου Πυλίου Στέργου Έψιμου και Αγίου Γεωργίου Γεωργίου Σαρρή, συνεπληρώθη η ανασκαφή. Ευρέθη ακέραιον το ναΐδριον με ορθωμένη την Αγία Τράπεζα αυτού, την Ιερά Προσκομιδή.

Γράφει ο Μητροπολίτης Καρπάθιος: "Τη μεθεπομένη, 26η Μαρτίου, επισκεφθείς προσεκύνησα την Εύρεσιν. Αύτη περιεφράχθη δια προσωρινού συρματοπλέγματος. Τη επαύριον, χοροστατήσας εις τον εν πόλει Κω Ενοριακόν ναόν Αγίας Παρασκευής, κατά τη Β' ακολουθίαν των Χαιρετισμών της Θεοτόκου ανήγγελα εις το Εκκλησίασμα την καλήν είδησιν. Μαρτύριον ότι πρόκειται περί του ναού Αγίας Κλαυδίας ευρέθη, κατά την ανασκαφήν πλαξ μαρμάρινη φέρουσα το όνομα Κλαυδία. Ταύτην εφυλάξαμεν εν τη Ιερά ημών Μητρόπολη."

Τα τελευταία χρόνια προστέθηκε το ψηφιδωτό του Δαυίδ Χατζηδαυίδ με την εικόνα της Αγίας Κλαυδίας από τη μία πλευρά και το όνομά της από την άλλη, ώστε πια να φαίνεται από τον δρόμο πηγαίνοντας για Πυλί.

Ο ναός θα αναστηλωθεί μόλις ολοκληρωθεί η εκσκαφή και η αποτύπωση του μνημείου για να προχωρήσει η μελέτη.

SUBTERRANEAN CHAPEL OF SAINT CLAUDIA IN PYLI

The small chapel of Saint Claudia is located in Pyli, in the area of Amoutsa (Agiaklafti).

On Tuesday, March 24th, 1959, under the supervision of the priests Stergos Epsimos of Saint Nicholas of Pyli and Georgios Sarris of Saint George, the excavation was completed. The chapel was discovered intact, with its Holy Altar and Prothesis (the sacred area of preparation) still standing.

Metropolitan Karpathios writes:

“On the following day, March 26th, I visited and venerated the discovery. It was enclosed with temporary barbed wire fencing. The next day, while presiding at the Parish Church of Saint Paraskevi in the town of Kos during the second service of the Salutations to the Virgin Mary, I announced the joyful news to the congregation. Evidence that this was indeed the church of Saint Claudia was found during the excavation: a marble plaque bearing the name Claudia. We preserved it in our Holy Metropolis.”

In recent years, a mosaic by David Hatzidavid was added, depicting Saint Claudia on one side and her name on the other, so that the site is now visible from the road leading to Pyli.

The church will be restored once the excavation and documentation of the monument are completed, allowing the restoration study to proceed.

According to Dikaiosnet, a Hellenistic necropolis has also been identified in the area of Saint Claudia.
